Nathan Smith, Clarinet and Bass Clarinet
Education/Teaching/Performance Experience
- Master of Fine Arts in Music, Clarinet and Bass Clarinet Performance
- Bachelors of Arts in Music, Clarinet with Performance Honors
I have over 10 years of experience teaching all ages and levels-beginners through professionals. I specialize in classical music, improvisation and even popular music. In my lessons I try to convey my love of music and the clarinet. My students tend to excel in their school band programs, place high in local and state honor bands, and have a great time learning the clarinet.
I have performed as a soloist, band leader, and guest artist hundreds of times in Michigan and California. I have appeared on college radio stations and PBS(KCET) and have lectured and taught college classes. I am currently working on my first solo CD.
I look forward to working with you!
Hobbies/Interests (Music or non-music related)
In my free time I like being outdoors, especially backpacking and hiking. I also like building computers, playing video games and sports. One of my favorite musical experiences was being a part of an orchestra that played music to silent movies.
Quote or Philosophy Learning a new instrument or piece of music should always be two things, rewarding and fun even when hard work is required.
