A painter paints his pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence.

Music is a gift, but it can also be learned. Anyone can learn! It just takes patience, persistence, and PRACTICE!

Danny Velic

Danny started playing guitar at the age of nine. Studying at Orion Music Studio for 8 years under Nick Schillace, he covered styles as diverse as rock, blues, folk, jazz, fingerstyle, and classical guitar. At the age of 17, Danny began teaching at Orion Music Studio and enrolled at Wayne State University where he began studying Classical Guitar under Professor Brian Roberts.

In his years at Wayne State University, Danny not only studied classical guitar, but also had a secondary focus in jazz guitar, and participated in chamber music, jazz guitar ensembles, and choir. During his college career he received awards such as the Wayne State Academic Scholarship, The Joe Fava Award for Classical Guitar, and the Music Department Talent Scholarship two years in a row. His studies culminated in a Bachelors of Music in Guitar Performance in 2009.

From parties and weddings, to restaurants and bars, to festivals of all types, as an instrumentalist, Danny performs all over Metro Detroit. He has performed in numerous musical theatre productions such as Annie(bass guitar), Rent (lead guitar), and Assassins (electric/acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin). He performs and records with the Detroit based band Odu Afrobeat Orchestra, who has released albums nationally and internationally. Danny also plays with the Detroit based group Savage Rascals, which is a jazz/rock/funk fusion group. The Savage Rascals also specialize in performing the technically and mentally demanding music of Frank Zappa. His performing career has lead Danny to play in such settings as the African World Festival, the Concert of Colors, Arts-Beats-and-Eats, Detroit River Days, and at the Royal Oak Music Theatre and Orchestra Hall.

Danny has been teaching for over 10 years. He has worked with children as young as 5 years old, to adults as old as 70. He has worked with students of all levels of experience and aspirations. Many of his students have gone on to study music at the collegiate level and have pursued careers in music. No matter what you want out of your lessons, Danny will help you reach and exceed your goals.

Danny enjoys making music whenever possible. When he isn’t teaching or gigging, he is spending time with his Golden Retriever and German Shepherd, hanging outside as much as possible. He likes playing pinball, going to concerts, hiking in the woods, biking, paddling, camping, and skiing. He also enjoys watching Detroit Sports and good movies.
