Dan Parrish is a well-rounded, seasoned professional of the music world. Having received collegiate training in both classical and jazz studies (Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Michigan State, Masters of Arts in Music from University of Central Florida) Dan has toured nationally with the Broadway production of 1776 The Musical as the tenor and bass trombonist in the pit orchestra. He has also toured full time as a trombonist in the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He has successfully competed as a finalist and winner in multiple international trombone competitions including the International Trombone Association’s Kai Winding Jazz Ensemble, and JJ Johnson Jazz Soloist competitions, and the American Trombone Workshop’s Jazz Trombone Soloist competition.

Dan has performed with artists such as Tico Torres of Bon Jovi, Jonathan Cain of Journey, Marty Morrell, Dwight Adams, Kris Johnson, Mike Tomaro, and many more. He has performed all over the country, as well as internationally in France, Italy, and Japan, and has been credited on multiple jazz big band and small group recordings. In addition to performing, Dan has led clinics for Jazz at Lincoln Center, has taught in several high schools across Michigan and Florida, has taught studio and theory classes at MSU’s Community Music School – Detroit, and has taught privately for nearly a decade.

Outside of music, Dan likes to spend as much time as he can outdoors. He’s been an avid hiker all his life, and even recently completed a month-long camping trip from Detroit to Los Angeles.

I like to meet each of my students where they’re at individually, which is why I don’t immediately assign any particular method books or materials. I think it’s important to assess each student’s goals, and frame my teaching method to best help them reach these goals.
